Bihar Police Sub Inspector Vacancy 2026: Selection Process

The selection process for appointment to the post of Bihar Police Sub Inspector (General Closed Cadre) will be conducted in three major stages:
First Stage: Preliminary Examination

  • This exam will be completely objective and multiple choice (Objective & MCQ).
  • The exam will have a question paper of total 200 marks, in which a total of 100 questions will be asked.
  • 2 hours will be given for the exam.
  • 2 marks will be given for each correct answer.
  • It will include questions related to English, General Knowledge, Hindi Language Knowledge, Reasoning and Current Affairs.
  • It is mandatory to score at least 30% marks to get shortlisted in the main examination.
  • 10 times the number of vacancies will be selected for the main examination in order of merit.

Second Stage: Main Examination:- Candidates who qualify in the preliminary examination will be eligible to appear in the main examination which will consist of two papers:
First Paper (Objective Type):

  • In this, a total of 200 questions will be asked from General Studies, Current Affairs, Mathematics, Logical Ability, English, Hindi and General Knowledge of Bihar.
  • For this, you will get 3 hours (180 minutes) and it will be of 200 marks.
  • Negative marking will be applicable in this, where 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Second Question Paper (Subjective/Written):

  • This exam will be of 1 hour duration and its total marks will be 50.
  • It includes Hindi Essay (15 marks), English Essay (15 marks), English Precis (10 marks) and Hindi to English Translation (10 marks).
  • A minimum of 30% marks in both papers is mandatory. Based on the scores in the main examination, three times the number of vacancies will be selected for the Physical Efficiency Test.

Third Stage: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Standards:- The physical parameters (height, chest and weight as per clause 4.5) of the candidates selected on the basis of the main written examination will be checked.
Physical Parameters

  • Minimum Height: 165 cm for General/OBC Males, 160 cm for Extremely Backward/SC/ST Males and 155 cm for all Females.
  • Chest (For Male only): 81 cms without expansion (86 cms with expansion) for General/BC/EBC and 79 cms without expansion (84 cms with expansion) for SC/ST.
  • Weight: Minimum weight of female candidates of all categories must be 48 kg.

Step 1: Registration and Payment

  1. First of all visit the official website of Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission https://bpssc.bihar.gov.in.
  2. Click on the application link related to Advt. No. 09/2026 under the “Bihar Police” tab given there.
  3. Fill in the required details like name, nationality, mobile number, email ID, Bihar domicile, reservation category, gender and date of birth in the registration form correctly.
  4. After successful payment and registration, you will receive the registration number and password on your registered mobile number and email ID.

Step 4: Final Submission
